Why is Qualifying Important?
Many may be wondering why qualifying for either (or both) of these meets is a big deal. There are several reasons, but the top three are:
- These meets represent the chance for the athletes to compete at a high level against other swimmers. It allows them to see the type competition they’ll face at high school swim meets.
- The environment is second to none! We can’t replicate the chance to swim in a college pool with thousands of fans at our average club/USA meet. This is a chance for swimmers to experience a big meet on a big stage before they are trying to qualify for the high school state swim meet (or swimming there!)
- Team performance and awareness improves. The SDMS coaches and athletes work incredibly hard for several months out of the year and this is a chance to showcase that hard work. Most other club teams run their practices with less coaches, no season-long practice plans, etc. When SDMS qualifies (and finishes well) at these big meets, it truly reinforces that hard work DOES pay off and in a big way!
