No Gray & White Split for Winter Season
As many of our families know, we usually split the Seahawks into two “sub-teams” for meets. Then we swim as one big SDMS team for the Conference Championship Meet.
The split was always a random divide across each age group with families on the same team. While this was done for several reasons, the biggest was to help keep swim meets shorter.
However this summer, there was a noticeable decrease in the number of swimmers at each swim meet. Because the SDMS team was split, it left the White and Gray teams incomplete. We need team participation at meets to fill events and relays, so we are now swimming as one group.
We’d like to remind everyone that the SDMS Seahawks are a competitive swim team. While we’ve never stressed the need to attend every meet, we do expect all of our families to participate in at least half of the swim meets AND the conference meet each year. Our club swimming program is not designed to be swim lessons.
By not swimming in meets, your child loses out on valuable competitive experience as an individual athlete and as part of relays. Part of SDMS’s mission is to help teach sportsmanship and teamwork. The best way to do this is by swimming in meets!
Save the Dates
The complete meet schedule is found under the Club Swimming > Practice & Meet Schedules. This includes the conference meet. Please mark your calendars now so we can show off our swimming pride at all the meets this season!
